Zenlens Contact Lenses

Zenlens Lenses are large diameter (over 16mm or 17mm) gas permeable scleral lenses.

They are custom made lenses that vault over the cornea to rest on the sclera (the white part of your eyes), creating a smooth spherical refractive surface.

Zenlens can be customeized with toric peripheral curves, MicroVault, Flexure controlling profile, and front toric RX.

These lenses are very stable on the eyes with better initial comfort.

They are suitable for patients with corneal irregularities, Keratoconus, Post Graft, surgery induced ectasia and dry eyes.

There Smart Curve™ design allows the modification of parameter chosen without changes to other parameters.

Insertion

Place a mirror horizontally on a flat surface.

Choose your preferred method of holding the lens:

Two-Finger Method: Place the lens between your index and middle fingers and gently place the lens on the eye.

Tripod Method: Pinch together your thumb, pointer and middle fingers to support the lens.

Using a DMV (Plunger): Place the lens on the cup of the DMV and guide it towards your eye.
To clean the DMV:

  • rinse it thoroughly with hot water and allow it to air dry.
  • Or soak it in multipurpose solution.

Fill the bowl of the scleral lens with sterile saline.

Look down into the mirror with your eyes parallel to it.

With one hand, pull your eyelids open as wide as you could, keeping both eyes open.

Gently touch the scleral lens to your eye.

Remove your fingers or plunger from the lens before you close your eyes.

Removal

Double check the position of the lens before you attempt to remove the lens.

  • Wet the tip of the plunger, and then apply it to the lower part of the scleral lens.
  • Pulling it up and out, tilting the lens off the eye.
  • You can press slightly at the bottom of the eye to help break the suction.

With your index finger on the top lid and middle finger of your other hand on the bottom lid, gently apply lid pressure to lift up the lens at the edge, just like removing a rigid gas permeable lens.

It is always a good idea to place a lint free towel on a flat surface and remove your lens on top of the towel. If you drop the lens, it will land on the towel.

Recommended replacement schedule for Zenlens lenses is every 3-5 years  with Clean & Polish by a contact lens fitter every 6 months to 1 year.
